Learn more about some of the grains and seeds and how to add them to your meals. Barley - Manitoba grows 10% of the barley in Canada. Barley is a great local alternative to rice. It is higher in fibre than rice (3 grams/1/2 cup, white rice has 1 gram fibre/1/2 cup) and the fibre is found throughout the grain, not just in the outer portion. Hemp - Manitoba hemp products include oil, protein powder, flour, roasted seeds, and hemp seed butter. Hemp is used as an ingredient in energy bars and beverages. Hemp seeds are rich in good fats, high in protein and high in fibre Flax - flax seeds are brown or yellow - there’s no nutritional difference.
