check the definition of veganism, before you call someone an idiot. veganism means no animal products. Bees are exploited for human profit, thats not vegan. Especially with all the substitutes like agave nectar, maple syrup etc, we dont need it.
misanthrope, thats …
misanthrope, thats one of the stupidest things I read. So we’re hurting the bees, but lets not make a big deal of it, because theyre tiny animals and no one really cares`? and because bugs are killed anyway, lets not care even when we CAN make a choice? I rather stand up for what I believe in.
I don’t think its …
I don’t think its right to kill or hurt any living creature, even small insects like bees. Bees are vital to most of the earths vegetation, we need bees for pollination. However that doesn’t mean that its right to kill them. My uncle has a small local bee farm. He doesn’t kill, or harm any of them. I oppose big corporate honey companies, that rely on killing bees.
But I see nothing …
But I see nothing wrong with supporting local bee keepers, who do no harm to bees, and actually help increase their population.(considering the mass drop in the bee population, which reasons are still unknown to scientists, that poses a very huge threat to us, because we rely on bees for much of our agriculture) If you’re going to use honey(which has shown to have mass health benefits) make sure you know the bee keeper, and how he treats and uses the bees.
I mean other than …
I mean other than being the most healthiest, environmentally sound, compassionate diet, shouldn’t we as vegans try and spread our lifestyle and its message, instead of making it a lifestyle of don’ts and can’ts and pointing at soo many insignificant ingredients, just makes it less and less inviting to the mainstream, and doesn’t that just defeat the purpose of spreading message?
In conclusion: as a …
In conclusion: as a movement, we need to stop trying to make veganism into a strange elitist cult, and continue making it more inviting to others.
So veganism is …
So veganism is about fitting in, Misanthrope? Do you honestly think that an omni is going to find you less weird for not eating honey, if you’re still refusing to eat meat, eggs and dairy? Do you think that’s going to win you some friends who would otherwise dismiss veganism? Come on!
Yes, Im probably …
Yes, Im probably stepping on insects unknowingly, and who knows how many died in my salad, but why should I use that as a justification to exploit these living creatures those times when I HAVE a choice? Veganism is about doing as much as you possibly can. We can’t prevent some insects from dying in our garden. We CAN refuse to exploit the bees and profit from their hard work. It’s stealing no matter how nice the beekeeper is. Dont tell me that they care about individual bees.
No, we shouldnt …
No, we shouldnt make a big deal out of this, since honey is easiest to give up when you turn vegan. So tell me are you still sticking to it just for the sake of argument and because you cant make the connection between exploitation and suffering? Unfairness and suffering doesn’t always involve slaughter, you know.
Bottom line: Bees …
Bottom line: Bees produce honey for themselves, not for humans. Just like cows produce milk for their young. (they would produce milk if they were mammals.) Honey belongs to them. Check any encyclopedia, or see a documentary. Instead of asking yourself why you shouldn’t eat honey, how about asking yourself what right you have to take it away from these creatures that made it?
edmoil, please let …
edmoil, please let me know how are as an omnivore hurting less animals, than vegans? And no, doing something wrong unintentionally, doesnt make us innocent. Never heard a vegan claim s/he is perfect. As long as we are part of society, we will unfairly benefit from it. But veganism is about doing best you can. You are right though, honey is not vegan, and can be easily avoided. (who eats honey nowadays?)Cant be compared to inhaling smoke from a bbq. Nonsense.

Honey is 100% vegan. Those who insist otherwise are usually the ones who buy nearly all conventional GMO foods supporting the PESTICIDE industry. Pesticides kill more than cultivating honey. Stop being hippocrates.
