The Tasty Way of Cooking

500 Grams of yellow split pea.
Soak them overnight, in cold water from the tap.
Next morning, change the water, and leave it for an hour.
Drain the water.
Boil in 6 pints of water, adjust the heat so it doesn’t boil over.
Boil for 2-3 hours.
Heat some Cumin seeds in a dry pan, untill they start jumping.
Put them in.
Add some hot water if you want it thinner.
After searving, add salt for taste.
Eat with, Roti, rice, curry, or as it is

Fry (bounjay) the dal/onion/garlic/geera etc., with a little curry powder (the geera should be parched and ground up). Do the above in a pressure cooker add salt to taste. put in a couple of whole wiri wiri pepper and let the pressure cooker do the job in less than 1/2 hour. Sprinkle lil gera on top when done. Adding curry during is criminal.

Pressure cooking the dal will reduce the cooking time and can skip soaking it. Pressure cook for maybe 20-30 max.

Looks beautiful. Thank you for sharing this. I’ve always wanted to know how to make regular dal. My mom only makes dal pithee (dal dish with round dumplings). Its made a bit different than regular dal. So thanks a lot. And don’t listen to those rude comments. Dal can be thick or thin, there is no right or wrong way in Indian cuisine. Please continue to post more videos. I would love if you make one on ras malai or gulab jamoon
